70+ viewings and no crits!...I think if people are willing to post they deserve something in return...so here goes.

This lacks the charm of your coloured works, all of which overcome their failings through clean lines and clear intent.

By failings I mean the lack of anatomical accuracy, which this too suffers from.
The sole purpose of fantasy art like this is...not to put to fine a point on it!...sex!!!
She HAS to be sexy or the piece fails...and she can't be sexy unless she is accuratly rendered!...which at the moment she is not!!!

You MUST use reference for stuff like this...it's not hard to come by, if you can't get someone to pose for you find a magazine image that is close to what you want and use that....it doesn't have to be an exact copy, just use it to get those all important details right!
Study anatomy...even if you want your work to be fantasy based and highly stylised you still need to know how to render the human form precisely...there are 100's of books on the subject...find some good ones and study hard. Work from life if you can...pose a friend and draw them...pose yourself and take a photo...anything!...Just don't try and make this stuff up!

I'm not big on backgrounds myself...prefering vignettes to full scale scenes...that's no problem...Plan your pictures so they don't need backgrounds if that's your preference, but don't just bung any old thing in to fill up the space...it always shows and always looks bad!

I'm sorry if this all sounds negative....it's supposed to be encouraging!! :)

Keep at it...have fun...work hard and I look forward to your next posting.

so... i did comment this. interesting my comment isnt here anymore.
i guess i will comment again, or rather comment kadyflyer's comment...about anatomy.
i hate anatomy, ever since i started drawing everyone told me "anatomy this" and "anatomy that" and i hated it. From then i slowly and unwillingly started to learn some about anatomy, and the more i studied it, the more interested i got. I must say i still prefer images of humans with odd anatomy, but to do the anatomy different, it's good to first know the "real" anatomy. When you can show that you know "real" anatomy, viewers can also accept if you anatomy is not "perfect", that you made everythin gyou did on purpose. Still assholes exist, and they always will. Don't care about them.

If you don't like doing backgrounds (I hate em myself ;)) try to find a simple setting instead, like a grey box or something, that will at least create an illusion of a background hehe ^^

ok hope i'm not too confusing... pm me if you have any questions. :)

Hmmmmm...Some interesting and I believe, dangerous points you've bought up there Repercutir. You say you prefer characters whose anatomy is '...not "perfect"....' by which I bet you mean characters with exaggerated anatomy not 'wrong'. Young, up and coming artists should not confuse STYLISED anatomy with BAD anatomy because there's a world of difference!
Nearly all of us working within the fantasy genre use stylised anatomy of one type or another...the girls have longer legs (and usually bigger boobs!!) the guys are broader than your average guy and taller etc etc...none of this is BAD anatomy, all the muscles, bones and features are correctly observed, it is simply pushing the form to express the idea.

My apologies to you Rela for using your posting for this...I just think it's kinda important to understand this huge difference.

:)

well i just wanted to post something i thought looked great...which is not in fact...now i do see the lacks...n that''s why i posted it at first...

though i wish to know whether people who are fat or not proportioned do not deserve to be looked at?

well am not slim nor trim nor sexy.. but am ok with my looks n body...

i wanted to do something different here but i guess Repercutir is right...i should show that i do know how to do the 'right'anatomy then try waht i want to do...

wow...first time my artwork got so much critiques :)

i guess that's good :)

may be i wil try to post a better corrected version latter on...

damn....David (Kaduflyer) already hit the nail on the head in regards to stylized anatomy.

The costume design is pretty funky (thumbup) But I do think youj need to loosen your fear of pushing your darks (and increasing contrast).

I agree about the fact you should use a reference photo to just get the basic idea of body form etc. although, I myself, am guilty of painting figures without reference, and it shows. I dont think this is way off, just here and there a bit. I do like the idea and you have taken a different pose from the easier 'face on' which is brave of you. Keep it up and you will definately grow as most of us have on this site. Good work.
